The short answer

For single cards, Cardmarket is the reference in Europe: lots of buyers, known prices, and a commission on each sale.

Vinted and Leboncoin suit bundles and simple sales, eBay expensive cards and buyers abroad; a shop buys quickly but below market price, and at a convention you sell in person, with no shipping.

Everywhere: set your price from the market price for the same language and condition, photograph front and back, and ship tracked.

Platform commissions and fees change regularly: always check their official rates before setting your price.

Setting your price

The right price is that of recent sales of the same card, in the same language, version and condition. A listing is just a seller's hope.

  1. 1Find the exact card: set, number, language, version. gotem. recognises it from a photo.
  2. 2Grade its condition honestly, under a lamp: corners, edges, surface, centering.
  3. 3Look at its price on gotem. for that condition: that's your baseline.
  4. 4Adjust for the platform: factor in the fees you'll pay, or go a little lower to sell fast.
  5. 5For an expensive card, also compare with current offers and completed sales.

Photos

  • Front and back, in daylight, without glare, on a plain background.
  • For an expensive card, out of its sleeve, with close-ups of the corners and flaws: a reassured buyer buys faster, and a dispute is easier to settle.
  • Always photos of your own card, never an image found online.

Shipping

  1. 1The card in a sleeve (penny sleeve), then in a toploader or a card saver.
  2. 2The toploader slipped into a resealable bag (team bag), wedged between two rigid pieces of cardboard.
  3. 3All of it in a rigid or padded envelope, so nothing bends.
  4. 4Send it as a tracked letter: the tracking number proves you shipped it. For an expensive card, choose insured or registered shipping, and check its compensation limit.
  5. 5Keep the tracking number and your photos until it's delivered.

On Vinted and Leboncoin, with built-in delivery, the shipping label is provided: follow their packing rules.

Selling with gotem.

gotem. isn't a marketplace: it doesn't buy, sell or collect any money, and takes no commission. But it helps you sell, here and elsewhere:

  • Each card's price by condition and language, to set yours.
  • A sale binder with your prices: market price adjusted by a percentage and rounded, or card by card.
  • Your shop in one link, with its QR code to put on your stand at conventions.
  • Or « My page »: your binders to show off, without prices.
  • « Export as image »: your cards for sale as images ready to post, with their prices.

Your gotem. shop in one link

Put your cards for sale in a sale binder, set your prices from the market, share your shop or display its QR code at conventions. Seller mode is requested from your account, for free.

Selling without getting scammed

  • I don't send anything before receiving payment, through the platform or a protected method.
  • I ignore buyers who want to pay outside the platform, or who send a payment link by message.
  • I'm wary of fake « platform » emails announcing a payment: I check in the app itself.
  • In person: a public place, and I check the payment before handing over the card.
  • For an expensive card, I film the packing before shipping.

What about taxes?

Online selling platforms report to the tax authorities private sellers who exceed 30 sales or €2,000 in a year (the EU DAC7 rule). That doesn't mean you owe tax: occasionally selling your own belongings usually isn't taxed, whereas regularly buying to resell is a taxable activity. For a big sale or any doubt, check impots.gouv.fr (France).
